Mission & Vision Statement

MEET OUR CHILDREN

United Hearts Orphanage, located in Montrouis, Haiti, is a ministry founded by Haitians, Pastor & Madam Oguenol Dor.  At present there are 48 children ages ranging from 3-17 years old living at the orphanage.

Pastor Dor, founder of United Brothers of Ebenezer Church, felt God leading him to start an orphanage, but he did not have the space or financial ability to start one. So he decided to start a school for the poor neighborhood children instead. Pastor Dor did not charge tuition or require the children to wear a uniform as most schools do in Haiti. This allowed even the poorest to begin their education.

Pastor Dor invited children who would not have been able to go to school otherwise. He would hold class outside under a tree with an old chalk board. More children came every day.  Then one day some of the children were not picked up after school. Pastor searched for the parents but couldn’t find them.  After sometime he finally found some of the parents in the mountains, but they wouldn’t take the children back. They could not feed them and asked Pastor Dor to keep them. Thus started the orphanage. They started with just Pastor’s house for sleeping and a palmfrond hut for a church building.

Darlene Schmeckpeper came upon this orphanage in 2010 shortly after the January 2010 earthquake. During her relief work with YWAM Port-au-Prince she visited the orphanage by chance on a trip with a long term missionary in Haiti, Sam Streu. At that time there were 33 children sleeping on the dirt floor of Pastor’s unfinished house. They were malnourished and each day was a struggle for survival.

After the earthquake, children came to Pastor’s school to learn and just didn’t go home. Either the parents had been lost or the parents abandoned them because they could not care for them. Pastor and Madam could not abandon them. Darlene saw so much need and felt the Lord calling us to partner in ministering to these children.

Sam, a missionary from a small church in  Alberta, Canada, has been able to help fund and build some basic infrastructure. We have boys and girls dorms, and an out building for bucket showers and pit latrines. Other ministries have come forward to finish pastor’s house, erect a church building and a kitchen. We recently completed a wall around the compound to keep the children safe!

We as God’s Island Family are partnering with Sam Streu, and United Hearts Orphanage to assist in the care and education of the children entrusted to them by God. The need is for resources to provide the basics; clean water, food and clothing for the children, as well as competent help.  We are committed to assuring the wise use of all resources.  Will you join us?
